The Ventura Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting on the west side of the city.
On Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at approximately 1:05 am, the Ventura Police Department Communications Center received calls reporting possible shots heard in the area of West Ramona Street and Riverside Street.
Officers responded to the area and were unable to locate any victims. While officers were investigating the incident, a shooting victim, an adult male, was dropped off at Ventura County Medical Center. The victim sustained life-threatening injuries and remained hospitalized. Ventura Police Detectives responded to the scene and are handling the investigation.
On Saturday, August 8, 2026, in the evening hours, the victim of the shooting succumbed to his injuries at VCMC. No arrests have been made at this time.
This appears to be an isolated incident and there does not appear to be a threat to the community. Additional information may be released at a later time.
