Ventura woman killed early morning

The Ventura Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting on the west side of the city. On Sunday, July 20th, at approximately 3:24am, an alert Ventura Police Department patrol officer located an injured female in the area of West Ramona St and Olive Street. The female, determined to be a 34-year-old Ventura resident, was gravely wounded from an apparent gunshot. Simultaneously, the Ventura Police Department Communications Center received calls reporting the shooting.

Ventura Fire and AMR responded, then transported the victim to VCMC for life-saving efforts. Unfortunately, the victim succumbed to her wounds and died at the hospital shortly after arrival.

Multiple patrol officers investigated the incident while awaiting further resources. Patrol summoned the assistance of a Ventura County Sheriff’s drone to search the area during the initial investigation. Ventura Police Department Major Crimes Unit Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded.

As a result of this investigation, a suspect and his residence (located in the 700 Block of Olive St in Ventura) were identified. Ventura Police Department Patrol units were able to detain the suspect and lock down his residence pending a search warrant. Ventura Police detectives obtained a search warrant and executed it without incident, collecting evidence of this crime in the process.

The suspect a 52-year-old Ventura resident, was booked into Ventura County Jail for 187 PC – Murder. The investigation is still ongoing, and anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Sergeant Fabian Gutierrez of the Major Crimes Unit at 805-339-4428.
